Brrrr county Dublin

I ACTUALLY started writing this post on the cold weather last Friday before the sad passing of Georgie Best, so I decided to post it today.

While the following aren’t great pictures, they were taken on Thursday evening as the snow began to fall ahead of what the Met called a severe weather warning, before they withdrew it. They obviously didn’t take their readings in my flat which was absolutely freezing all weekend. Thank God for the fire.

Brrr

Snowflakes through the tree

Oh and despite the withdrawing of the severe weather warning and predictions of a mild winter, it is still bloody freezing, the poor doggies paws were frozen when the Young Wan got home from school yesterday.

Dublin, Ireland. Mmmhhh wonderful fire. ADOE

Oh to live in a home with touch control central heating. While I love my open fire I would give it up for all over home warmth at the drop of a hat.

We have central heating in our house and it's not all it's cracked up to be! Mammy and Daddy Dunne have a mortal fear of actually turning it on, meaning it's like Siberia in every room except the sitting room (thank Jaysis for the gas fire!). "Sure what would you be wanting to turn that on for? It's mild out and it costs a fortune" they say...well I think that's what they're mumbling from underneath the piles of clothes we're all forced to wear at all times!

Last night I came home from work to find them sitting (fully dressed winter boots and all) on the sofa looking mournfully at a bill from Bord Gais for the repair of the boiler. The bloody thing had broken down and it cost €400 to fix it! How it's broken, I dunno, cos it hasn't been used since 1992! But guess who has to pay for it? Yup muggins here! I suppose it's only fair though, considering they're retired and I'm the one sneakily turning on all the radiators while they're out of the house!

So hang on to your fire, at least that doesn't break down!

Central heating's not all it's cracked up to be. For onr, gas bills have gone mad this year. Over $100 a month I pay in the winter. My kids have been told that jumpers and blankets are lovely inventions, and they should take advantage of them.

My gas bills are a f*cking joke too. The pic of the fire makes me all homesick for your flat!

Luck you Em up there in the frozen north, I'll play $230 a month thsi winter on gas and that's with the bidget plan spreading the payments ouit from Sept - March. Oh the good ol US of A, don't know how people with less money than we have survive, maybe they don't? Maybe it's a plot?

PS: My verification word was pfzuel, what do you think that means? I think I'll comment on a blof once a day and take the verification word as a sign for the day. Pfzuel, oh oh could be something about fuel - wow, that's eerie man!

Sure we didn't get central heating in our family home until 1991.Tell that to people in England and they think we really are from the bog.But true as it is, i wouldn't have had it any other way.The ritual of lighting a fire is loaded with memories, all good. you don't get that with the flick of a button.

Oh, did you hear that some business people in Donegal, particularly hoteliers are sueing Met Eireann cos of that severe weather warning thing? They're saying that people cancelled reservations/bookings etc because of the warning and they lost money.

Hmm, dunno if they have a leg to stand on, I mean, "Met Eireann in wrong weather shocker" is hardly news now is it? It'd be more shocking if they got it right for a change!
