the times and perils of a single mum
"Redmum is a sharp, funny and well-observed slice-of-life blog...
Worth a read for its almost Hornby-esque prose and sensibility that's either unintentionally hilarious or by a future full-time author."
Blogosphere by Joe Bloggs, Sunday Tribune
This is one photograph from a series of time delayed pics I took, the resulting film is below. I'm not sure what happened to the sound, I'll check that out and replace it when I find the version with sound. The pics were taken from about 1pm until 10pm about three minutes apart, except for the times when I pressed the shutter myself.
THIS is brilliant, I am not sure which bit I laughed at most, the farmer running for dear life or the butcher/matador and his expert use of shopping trolley. A classic.
I CAN categorically state I have indeed uttered every single line of this. The Young Wan laughed her head off at this, now if I had known that by singing my Mummy statements I might get further I would have tried it years ago, well beyond toddlerhood anyhow. Enjoy.
I can barely post here without laughing. I was sent one of those Facebook funwall videos by Manuel from Well Done Fillet and it is a classic. You have a free-style disco dancing competition from 1981, you have Sheeba, you have Margot (who was appearing in the Abercorn - LOL), some bloke looking very out of place from Trust House Forte as well as an Ulster Disco Dnacing champ. What more ingredients for You Tube magic do you need?
As I watched I laughed more and more at the antics and shape-throwing until contestant number eight came on, 20-year-old Ronan 'Crazy Legs' Lawlor, representing the Greenan Lodge Hotel, then I snorted. That is where we cut our own dancing feet as teenagers in the 1980s, thankfully those few years made all the difference. No offence Ronan. I don't know whether to admire his crazy leg moves or what... I decided on what.
It is bad to admit I was disappointed not to see who got through in the end, it must have been a hard decision for the judging panel.
By the way the name of the post is a little in-joke for anyone who grew up in Belfast and probably more west Belfast in the 1980s; this is especially for you, enjoy and cringe.
THIS is one of the maddest things I have ever seen, the Young Wan and I were laughing heartily at this last night, more because it looks strangely mad and strangely cute. I don't know if it is cruel or not, the dog appears happy as larry and it was rescued. Sure have a look yourself.
THERE I was trying unsuccessfully to take pics of this perfect line of swans as they swam up the Liffey under the bridges. The low light ensured that I wasn't able to capture the parent and it's six cygnets as I would have liked. So I decided to go one better and film it.
As I was filming I realised that a lad standing on the boardwalk was chucking rubbish at the beautiful line. What a gobsh*te. While they swam onto the next bridge and then took off I thought it would have been more appropriate for them to fly out of the water then and clout the lads with their wings. Maybe the next time. So here's the beautiful and guilty parties.
We love the Iron Bru advert in our house, it is one of the funniest ads I have seen in a long time. Here comes the summer...
And extra footage of the roller coaster, who didn't want to be one of the scout troup that ate their lunch on a roller coaster courtesy of Jim'll Fix It.
I was watching the excellent Discover Ireland/All these highs and lows ad and thought if only. So here's a little quickly mashed together version with images taken mostly in the last couple of weeks which is probably more true to the actual summer.
You may have seen this already buzzing around the blogosphere and here it is, some prisoners from a Filipino jail perform Michael Jackson's Thriller. My favourite character here has to be the damsel in distress as well as the numerous zombies...
It is an absolutely gorgeous day, it was getting to the stage where it felt unlikely we would ever see it again. So I'm on a train heading to Belfast where I am going to see a pal and help her get sorted photographically wise on her computer.
She is a recent convert to digital and after years of wanting to take a photography course finally started one last year.
As time went on it was clear that she was not enjoying it as much as she thought she would. Some of the classmates were very competitive. She was not learning what she wanted to learn and was feeling under increasing pressure with projects as it was an exam class. Couple all this with caring for two young children she eventually knocked the class on the head.
I figured the best thing for her to do would be to maybe join a camera club and at the very least join Flickr. There are groups for everything there full of tutorials on how to do everything. You can also store and sort images in an easy to manage fashion. You would not believe the amount of images I have and one of the easiest ways for me to manage is through Flickr and an external hard drive. Someday soon I will find a better system but for now it works well enough.
So one of the plans for today is to get out and about and take some snaps, hopefully we will keep the wonderful big clouds. I am going to try some HDR shots but my attempts at that so far has been eh strange. I need some slow moving clouds!
Anyway here's a song for the day, weekend even! Ah go wan.
I WENT to see Joan As Police Woman the other night in Vicar Street, excellent show altogether. It is a strange venue with all the seats practically piled up on top of each other. But it is intimate which is great. I imagine it is intimidating for a performer but Joan as Policewoman had the crowd eating of their hands.
There's a lot of funny youtube videos on the election. I only spotted this one, Super Spoofer, by Abba (Anyone but Bertie Ahern). Enjoy. Oh and you can find more funny videos on Vote Tube and Irish Election tv. You can also find more here on youtube itself.
